How to Create Targeted Website Traffic Using Free Traffic Exchanges Copyright 2013 Donovan Baldwin At first glance, it would seem that there is no real way to create targeted website traffic using free traffic exchanges. After all, almost all of these TE's, as they are sometimes called, are based on the idea that you will be shown the websites of other people and, in turn, your website(s) will be shown to other traffic exchange members on a random basis. Actually, there are different types of traffic exchanges and different ways of presenting your information to other TE members. While TE traffic is a bit less focused than other types, it is free, and, for those with limited budgets, that is an important factor. Most basic traffic exchanges, and there are hundreds, use the system I mentioned earlier. At a simple traffic exchange such as HitHeifer.com, for example, you may see a weight loss program in one view and in the next see how to promote your website on the Goodyear blimp! Okay, a little exaggeration there, but you get the idea. While it can be a bit of a trick to get targeted traffic from such TE's, it is not completely impossible. More on that in a minute. There are traffic exchanges which will allow you, as the advertiser, to pick the category, or multiple categories, in which your website will be shown. As the surfer at one of these TE's, you will generally be able to specify the categories you wish to view. If, for example, you are a member of Traffic Swarm, you will be able to pick the category in which your website will be listed, and the categories of the websites you wish to view. If you are selling a weight loss product, you can list your website under Health and Fitness. People interested in those categories will be exposed to your ad. A slightly different sort of exchange is represented by LinkReferral.com. At Link Referral, you can move your website higher on a list of similar websites in several different manners. However, whether or not people visit your website is left to their choice based on your description. Unlike the standard TE, at Link Referral, you have to go looking for, and at, websites in order to even have your website high enough on the list to have people possibly visit it. However, at Link Referral, people are more likely to actually be looking at categories which interest them and thus, are more likely to at least view your website if you have posted it in an appropriate category. Okay, let's talk about getting targeted website traffic using the standard, "you show me yours and I'll show you mine" traffic exchange. There is one reality you must accept if you want to use one of these TE's. Most of the people there are not the least bit interested in your website. They are there JUST to get people to go to THEIR website! In fact, many surfers at these websites pop up multiple pages/tabs and blow through several TE's as fast as they can. Therefore, even if your website is "shown" to a great many surfers, only a few will actually take the time to scan your information and possibly react. One of the best ways to get to these people, no matter what your product or service, is to have a website that jolts them out of their complacency. This can be with color, images, sound, etc. However, be advised that different TE's have different rules about audio, so check the rules. Once you get their attention, you are not going to have a lot of time, so don't try to do the whole sale in one shot. In fact, people surfing at free traffic exchanges are highly unlikely to actually BUY anything. However, they are susceptible to free things, so offer a free report related to your product or service. Once they go there, and you actually provide them with valuable information they can really use, you can try to sell them. However, there are many things that people surfing on a traffic exchange just are not going to be interested in. For example, you are not bloody likely to sell anybody soap using a free traffic exchange. So, your service or product should be either something of broad general interest, such as weight loss or making money, or, on the other hand, something of specific interest to a traffic exchange surfer. Most are there in hopes of getting traffic, so, if you can offer something which will increase their traffic, almost everyone who views your offer will be "targeted".
